Youth, just like us adults, have a "best way" to learn. What factors shape that best way? How do we apply modern concepts to teach a 10 to 14 year old student in one of our programs, in order to guide them to be their best?
How do you get a group of energetic, apathetic, unruly, fun-loving, ADHD, (fill-in-the-blank) 10 to 14 year old young adults to become laser-focused?
Tell them to start when they hear the word "GO!"...
... and then have some fun!
"My kid's lazy."
You are correct in recognizing that 10 to 14 year old youth can and should show a sense of wanting to accomplish things, whether chores, learning or anything worthwhile.
But when they don't, parental panic can hit. After reminding - then threatening - and still things aren't done or rules aren't followed, it's time to discover positive strategies for nurturing intrinsic motivation in your child.
